St. Jerome
(Priest, and
Monk of Bethlehem)
Sept. 30
The Collect.
O GOD, who hast given us the holy
Scriptures for a light to shine upon our path: Grant us, after the example of
thy servant Jerome, so to learn of thee according to thy holy Word, that we may
find in it the light that shineth more and more unto the perfect day; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Epistle. Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-9.
AND all the people gathered
themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate;
and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses,
which the LORD had commanded to Israel. And Ezra the priest brought the law
before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with
understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month. And he read therein
before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday,
before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of
all the people were attentive unto the book of the law. And Ezra opened the
book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and
when he opened it, all the people stood up: and Ezra blessed the LORD, the
great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their
hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to
the ground. So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the
sense, and caused them to understand the reading. And Nehemiah, who was the
governor and Ezra the priest the scribe, and the Levites that taught the
people, said unto all the people, This day is holy unto the LORD your God;
mourn not, nor weep. For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the
law.
The Gospel. St. Luke 24:44-48.
JESUS said unto them, These are the
words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be
fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in
the psalms, concerning me. Then opened he their understanding, that they might
understand the scriptures, and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it
behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that
repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all
nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.

The Collect.
O GOD, the light of the faithful and
shepherd of souls, who didst call thy servant Remigius to feed thysheep by his
word, and guide them by his example: Grant us, we pray thee, to keep the faith
which he taught, and to follow in his footsteps; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Collect.
MOST high, almighty, and good Lord:
Grant thy people grace to renounce gladly the vanities of this world, that,
after the example of blessed Francis, we may for love of thee delight in all
thy creatures, with perfectness of joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Epistle. Galatians 6:14-18.
GOD forbid that I should glory, save
in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me,
and I unto the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any
thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And as many as walk according to
this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From
henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord
Jesus. Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
The Gospel. St. Matthew 11:25-30.
JESUS said, I thank thee, 0 Father,
Lord of heaven and v earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise
and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father: for so it
seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no
man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save
the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all ye
that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon
you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest
unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
