The Introit Psalm 119 X. Manus tuae fecerunt me.

THY hands have made me and fashioned me: * O give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
74 They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; * because I have put my trust in thy word.
    75 I know, O L
ORD, that thy judgments are right, * and that thou of very faithfulness hast caused me to be troubled.
76 O let thy merciful kindness be my comfort, * according to thy word unto thy servant.
77 O let thy loving mercies come unto me, that I may live; * for thy law is my delight.
78 Let the proud be confounded, for they go wickedly about to destroy me; * but I will be occupied in thy commandments.
79 Let such as fear thee, and have known thy testimonies, * be turned unto me.
80 O let my heart be sound in thy statutes, * that I be not ashamed.

The Collect.

LET thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of thy humble servants; and, that they may obtain their petitions, make them to ask such things as shall please thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle. 1 Cor. xii. 1.

CONCERNING spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles. carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: but all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

The Gradual Ps 137:1-5

BY the waters of Babylon we sat down and wept, * when we remembered thee, O Sion.
2 As for our harps, we hanged them up * upon the trees that are therein.
3 For they that led us away captive required of us then a song, and they that plundered us a melody: *  'Sing us one of the songs of Sion.'
4 How shall we sing the Lord's song * in a strange land?
5 If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, * let my right hand forget her cunning.

The Alleluia Ps 137:6

Alleluia! Alleluia! If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; * yea if I prefer not Jerusalem in my mirth. Alleluia!

The Gospel. St. Luke xix. 41.

AND when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and com pass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, and shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; be cause thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves. And he taught daily in the temple.

The Epistle  I Cor. xv. 39-46

Brethren, all flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The Gospel  Luke xxi. 34-36

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
