Votive Masses, Wednesday Salis Populi, Thursday of the Blessed Sacriment, Friday of the Holy Cross

Salis Populi

The Collect.

O God, Who by the grace of the Holy Ghost dost pour the gift of charity into the hearts of Thy faithful people, grant unto Thy servants, our brethren and sisters, for whom we entreat Thy mercy, health of mind and body, that they may love Thee with their whole strength, and may accomplish that which is pleasing unto Thee with a perfect love. Through Jesus Christ our Lord who with Thee and the Holy Ghost, livith reigneth one God unto the ages or ages. Amen!

The Lesson. Isaiah xviii.

Thus saith the Lord God, In that day shall the present be brought unto the Lord of Hosts,
and a fierce king shall rule over them. In that day shall there be an altar to the Lord
in the midst of the land •, and the Lord shall be known, and they shall do sacrifice and
oblation ; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the Lord and perform it ; and they shall return
even to the Lord, and He shall be entreated of them, and shall heal them. In that day
shall Israel be a blessing in the midst of the land, whom the Lord of hosts shall bless,
saying, Blessed be My people and the work of My hands, Israel My inheritance, saith the
Lord Almighty.

The Gospel. Mark 12:41-44.

And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Of the Blessed Sacriment

The Collect.

O God, who in a wonderful sacrament hast left us a memory of thy passion, grant us,
we beseech thee, so to venerate the sacred mysteries of thy body and blood, that we may
ever perceive in ourselves the fruit of thy redemption. All this we ask through Jesus
Christ our Lord who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost one God,
world without end. Amen!

The Epistle. I Cor. xii. 23-29.

Brethren, I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread. And giving thanks, broke, and said: Take ye, and eat: this is my body, which shall be delivered for you: this do for the commemoration of me. In like manner also the chalice, after he had supped, saying: This chalice is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as often as you shall drink, for the commemoration of me. For as often as you shall eat this bread, and drink the chalice, you shall show the death of the Lord, until he come. Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord.

The Gospel.John vi. 55-58.

At that time said Jesus to his disciples and to the multitude of the Jews, my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father; so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead. He that eateth this bread, shall live for ever.

Of the Holy Cross

The Collect

God, who has willed to sanctify the banner of the The life giving cross by the precious blood of thy only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, grant, we beseech thee, that they who rejoice in the honour of the same holy cross, may also everywhere rejoice in thy protection. Through Jesus Christ our Lord who with Thee and the Holy Ghost, livith reigneth one God unto the ages or ages. Amen!

The Epistle. Phil. ii. 8-11

Brethren, Christ became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Gospel. Matt. xx. 17-19

At that time, Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
