Antiphons for the Psalms at Matins and Evensong

For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, * nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

The Lord appointed other seventy also, * and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.

The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: * pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

And daily in the temple, and in every house, * they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, * and in breaking of bread, and in the prayers.

The Collect.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, we thank thee for thy servant ———, whom thou didst call to preach The Gospel to the people of ———: Raise up, we pray thee, in this and every land, heralds and evangelists of thy kingdom, that thy Church may make known the unsearchable riches. of Christ, and may increase with the increase of God; through the same thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer

is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatso ever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
