The Introit Psalm 119 VIII. Portio mea, Domine.

THOU art my portion, O LORD; * I have promised to keep thy law.
58 I made my humble petition in thy presence with my whole heart; * O be merciful unto me, according to thy word.
59 I called mine own ways to remembrance, * and turned my feet unto thy testimonies.
60 I made haste, and prolonged not the time, * to keep thy commandments.

61 The snares of the ungodly have compassed me about; * but I have not forgotten thy law.
62 At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee, * because of thy righteous judgments.
63 I am a companion of all them that fear thee, * and keep thy commandments.
    64 The earth, O L
ORD, is full of thy mercy: * O teach me thy statutes.

The Collect.

OGOD, whose never-failing providence ordereth all things both in heaven and earth; We humbly beseech thee to put away from us all hurtful things, and to give us those things which are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle.
Rom. viii. 12.

BRETHREN, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

The Gradual  Ps 48:13-14

13 Walk about Sion, and go round about her; * and count the towers thereof.
14 Mark well her bulwarks, consider her citadels, * that ye may tell them that come after.

The Alleluia Ps 48: 15

Alleluia! Alleluia! For this God is our God for ever and ever: * he shall be our guide for evermore. Alleluia!

The Gospel.
St. Matt. vii. 15.
BEWARE of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree can not bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Therefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

2nd Evensong
The Psalms Appointed
37

The Readings
Gen 18:20-33 & Luke 11:5-13

The Antiphon for the Magnificat
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven: * but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same shall enter into the kingdom of heaven Alleluia!

Wednesday after the Eighth Sunday after Trinity

Holy Communion

The Epistle  Rom. v. 8-11

Brethren, God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

The Gospel  Mark ix. 38-48

At that time, the disciples said unto Jesus, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and he followeth not us: and we forbad him, because he followeth not us. But Jesus said, Forbid him not: for there is no man which shall do a miracle in my name, that can lightly speak evil of me. For he that is not against us is on our part. For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward. And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea. And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
