The
Dedication of a Church
The
Lesson. Apoc. xxi. 2-5
In those
days, I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of
heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice
out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will
dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with
them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and
there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there
be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon
the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.

Gospel. Luke xix. 1-10
At that time,
Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. And, behold, there was a man named
Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. And he
sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was
little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to
see him: for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he
looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come
down; for to day I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down,
and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying,
That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zacchaeus stood,
and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor;
and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him
fourfold. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house,
forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek
and to save that which was lost.

Gospel. John x. 22-30
At that time
it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter. And Jesus
walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch. Then came the Jews round about him,
and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ,
tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the
works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. But ye believe
not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my
voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life;
and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck
them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.
