Of the Faithful
Departed
The
Collect
O God, the creator and redeemer of all the faithful, grant unto the souls of all the faithful dead the remission of all their sins, that by our devout supplications, they may obtain that pardon which they have always desired. All this we ask through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son. Who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Goast one God unto the ages of ages. Amen.
The
Lesson. Apoc. xiv. 13.
In those days, I
heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die
in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from
their labours; and their works do follow them.
The
Epistle. I Cor. xv. 20-23.
Brethren, Christ
risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since
by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in
Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his
own order.
The
Gospels.
Sunday
and Monday. John xi. 21-27.
At that time Martha
said to Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I
know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I
know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said
unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though
he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall
never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that
thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
Tuesday.
John vi. 37-40.
At that time Jesus
said to his disciples and to the multitude of the Jews, All that the Father
giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast
out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him
that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all
which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at
the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which
seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will
raise him up at the last day.
Wednesday.
John v. 24-29.
At that time Jesus
said to his disciples and to the multitude of the Jews, Verily, verily, I say
unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath
everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from
death unto life. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now
is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear
shall live. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son
to have life in himself; And hath given him authority to execute judgment also,
because he is the Son of man. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in
the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come
forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that
have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Thursday.
John v. 21-24.
At that time Jesus
said to his disciples and to the multitude of the Jews, as the Father raiseth
up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. For
the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That
all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that
honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. Verily,
verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent
me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed
from death unto life.
Friday.
John vi. 51-54.
At that time Jesus
said to his disciples and to the multitude of the Jews, I am the living bread
which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for
ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the
life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can
this man give us his flesh to eat? Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I
say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood,
ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath
eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Saturday.
John vi. 53-54.
At that time Jesus
said to his disciples and to the multitude of the Jews, Verily, verily, I say
unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye
have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal
life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
