THE earth is the LORD'S, and all that therein is; *

his holy place?
4 Even he that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; * and
that hath not lift up his mind unto vanity, nor sworn to deceive his neighbour.
5 He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, * and righteousness from the
God of his salvation.
6 This is the generation of them that seek him; * even of them
that seek thy face, O God of Jacob.

The Collect.
OLORD God, who seest that we put not our trust in any thing that we
do; Mercifully grant that by thy power we may be defended against all
adversity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Epistle. 2 Cor. xi. 19.
YE suffer fools gladly, seeing ye yourselves are wise. For ye
suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of
you, if a man exalt himself, if a man smite you on the face. I speak as
concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Howbeit whereinsoever any is
bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also. Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they
Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I. Are they ministers
of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes
above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times
received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I
stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep
in journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by
mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils
in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; in
weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in
fastings often, in cold and nakedness. Beside those things that are without,
that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak, and
I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? If I must needs glory, I will
glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. The God and Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.
The Tract Ps 17:6-9
6 I have called upon thee, O God, for thou shalt hear me: *

The Gospel. St. Luke viii. 4.
WHEN much people were gathered together, and were come to him out
of every city, he spake by a parable: A sower went out to sow his seed: and as
he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of
the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung
up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns;
and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground,
and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these
things, he cried, he that hath ears to hear, let him hear. And his disciples
asked him, saying, What might this parable be? And he said Unto you it is given
to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that
seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Now the
parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the way side are they
that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts,
lest they should believe and be saved. They on the rock are they, which, when
they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while
believe, and in time or temptation fall away. And that which fell among thorns
are they which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and
riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that
on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard
the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

Brethren, I call God for a record upon my soul, that
to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth. Not for that we have dominion over
your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand. But I
determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.
For if I make you sorry, who is he then that maketh me glad, but the same which
is made sorry by me? And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I
should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in
you all, that my joy is the joy of you all. For out of much affliction and
anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved,
but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. But if
any have caused grief, he hath not grieved me, but in part: that I may not
overcharge you all. Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was
inflicted of many. So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and
comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch
sorrow. Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him. For
to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be
obedient in all things. To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I
forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the
person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not
ignorant of his devices.
The Gospel Mark iv. 1-9
At that time Jesus began to teach by the sea side: and
there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship,
and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land. And he
taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,
Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: And it came to pass, as he

Brethren, knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we
persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made
manifest in your consciences. For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but
give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer
them which glory in appearance, and not in heart. For whether we be beside
ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. For the
love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for
all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should
not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose
again.
The Gospel Luke xvii. 20-37
At that time when
Jesus was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he
answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither
shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is
within you. And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall
desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it. And
they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow
them. For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven,
shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in
his day. But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this
generation. And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days
of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were
given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood
came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they
did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But
the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from
heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son
of man is revealed. In that day, he which shall be upon the housetop, and his
stuff in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in
the field, let him likewise not return back. Remember Lot’s wife. Whosoever
shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life
shall preserve it. I tell you, in that night there shall be two men in one bed;
the one shall be taken, and the other shall be left. Two women shall be
grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be
in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. And they answered and
said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is,
thither will the eagles be gathered together.
