The Introit Psalm
43. Judica me, Deus.
2 For thou art the God of my strength; why hast thou put me from thee? * and why go I so heavily, while the enemy oppresseth me?
3 O send out thy light and thy truth, that they may lead me, * and bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy dwelling;
4 And that I may go unto the altar of God, even unto the God of my joy and gladness; * and upon the harp will I give thanks unto thee, O God, my God.
5 Why art thou so heavy, O my soul? * and why art thou so disquieted within me?
6 O put thy trust in God; * for I will yet give him thanks, which is the help of my countenance, and my God.
The Collect.
The Epistle. Ephes. v. 1.
The Tract Ps 25:16-22
16 TURN thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; * for I am desolate
and in misery.
17 Relieve thou the sorrows of my heart: * O bring thou me out of
my troubles.
18 Look upon my adversity and misery, * and forgive me all my
sins.
19 Consider mine enemies, how many they are; * and they bear a
tyrannous hate against me.
20 O keep my soul, and deliver me; * let me not be confounded, for
I have put my trust in thee.
21 Let perfectness and righteous dealing preserve me; * for my
hope is in thee.
22 DELIVER Israel, O God, * out of all his troubles.

The
Epistle. 2 Samuel 12: 1-15.
AND the Lord sent Nathan unto David. And he came
unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the
other poor. The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds: but the poor man
had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up:
and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own
meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a
daughter. And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take
of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come
unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was
come to him. And David's anger was greatly kindled
against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall
surely die: and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing,
and because he had no pity. And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus
saith the LORD God of
Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand
of Saul; and I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy
bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too
little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. Wherefore
hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with
the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the
sword of the children of Ammon. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from
thine house; because thou hast despised me, snd hast taken the wife of Uriah
the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee of thine own house, and I
will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he
shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. For thou didst it secretly:
but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before i the sun. And David
said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath j put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Howbeit, because by
this deed thou hast given great occasion
to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto
thee shall surely die. And Nathan departed unto his house.
The
Gospel. St. John 8:12, 28-36.
THEN spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am
the : light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but
shall have the light of life. When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall
ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath
taught me, I speak these things. And he that sent me is with me: the Father
hath not left me alone; for I do always those
things that please him. As he spake these words,
many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If
ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the
truth, and the truth shall make you free. They answered him, We be Abraham's
seed, and were never in bondage to any man:
how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? Jesus
answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the
servant of sin. And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth
ever. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

The
Epistle, I Kings 21:1-20.
AND it came to pass after these things, that
Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard, which was in Jezreel, hard by the palace
of Ahab king of Samaria. And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy
vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my
house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem
good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money. And Naboth said to
Ahab, The LORD forbid
it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee. And Ahab
came into his house heavy and displeased because of the word which Naboth the
Jezreelite had spoken to him: for he had said, I will not give thee the
inheritance of my fathers. And he laid him down upon his
bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no bread. But Jezebel his wife came to
him and said unto him, Why is thy spirit so sad, that thou eatest no bread? And
he said unto her, Because I spake unto Naboth the Jezreelite, and said unto
him, Give me thy vineyard for money; or else, if it please thee, I will give
thee another vineyard for it: and he answered, I will not give thee my vineyard.
And Jezebel his wife said unto him, Dost thou now govern the kingdom of Israel?
arise, and eat bread, and let thine heart be merry: I will give thee the
vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. So she wrote letters in Ahab's name, and
sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters unto the elders and to the
nobles that were in his city, dwelling with Naboth. And she wrote in the
letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people: and
set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying,
Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and Stone him,
that he may die. And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who
were
the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had
sent unto them, and as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto
them. They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people. And there
came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial
witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people,
saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out
of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died. Then they sent to
Jezebel, saying, Naboth is stoned, and if) dead. And it came to pass, when
Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned, and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab,
Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he
refused to give thee for money: for Naboth is
not alive, but dead. And it came to pass, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead,
that Ahab rose up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take
possession of it. And the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, i saying, Arise, go
down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which | is in Samaria: behold, he is in the
vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it. And thou shalt speak
| unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak
unto him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked: the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick
thy blood, even thine., And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine
enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work
evil in the sight of the LORD.
The
Gospel. St. John 7:14-18, 25-30.
NOW about the midst of the feast Jesus went up
into the temple, and taught. And the Jews marvelled saying, How knoweth this
man letters, having never learned? Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine
is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know
of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. He that
speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory;
but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the
same is true, and no
unrighteousness is in him. Then said some of
them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? But, lo, he speaketh
boldly, and they say nothing unto
him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the
very Christ? Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no
man knoweth whence he is. Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying,
Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he
that sent me is true, whom ye know not. But I know him: for I am from him, and
he hath sent me. Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him,
because his hour was not yet come.
