The Introit Psalm
120. Ad Dominum.
WHEN I was in trouble, I called upon the
LORD, * and he heard me.
2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, * and from a deceitful tongue.
3 What reward shall be given or done unto thee, thou false tongue? * even mighty and sharp arrows, with hot burning coals.
2 Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, * and from a deceitful tongue.
3 What reward shall be given or done unto thee, thou false tongue? * even mighty and sharp arrows, with hot burning coals.
4
Woe is me, that I am constrained to dwell with Meshech, * and to have my
habitation among the tents of Kedar!
5 My soul hath long dwelt among them * that are enemies unto peace.
6 I labour for peace; but when I speak unto them thereof, * they make them ready to battle.
5 My soul hath long dwelt among them * that are enemies unto peace.
6 I labour for peace; but when I speak unto them thereof, * they make them ready to battle.

4 He calleth to the heavens from above, * and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 'Gather my saints together unto me: * those that have made a covenant with me with sacrifice.'

The Lesson Zech. 8:3-8.
The Gospel Matt 11:11-15
Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there
hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is
least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. And from the
days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence,
and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the
law prophesied until John. And if ye will receive it, this is
Elias, which was for to come. He that hath ears to hear, let
him hear.

The Epistle Isa 62:6-12
I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never
hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the Lord, keep not
silence, And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he
make Jerusalem a praise in the earth. The Lord hath sworn by
his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy
corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink
thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured: But they that have
gathered it shall eat it, and praise the Lord; and they that have brought it
together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness. Go
through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast
up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people. Behold,
the Lord hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of
Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his
work before him. And they shall call them, The holy people, The
redeemed of the Lord: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not
forsaken.
The Gospel John 1:15-18
John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I
spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. And
of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For
the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No
man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of
the Father, he hath declared him.
