3 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, * and praise the LORD.
4 The LORD that made heaven and earth * give thee blessing out of Sion.
The Collect.
For the Epistle. Mal. iii. 1
.
BEHOLD, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way
before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even
the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith
the Lord of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand
when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' sope: and
he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons
of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord
an offering in righteousness. Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be
pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years. And I
will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the
sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against
those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless,
and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the
Lord of hosts.
The Gradual Luke 2:29-31
LORD, now lettest thou
thy servant depart in peace, * according to thy word.
For mine eyes have seen * thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared * before the face of all people;
For mine eyes have seen * thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared * before the face of all people;
The Alleluia Luke 2:32
Alleluia! Alleluia! To be a light to lighten the Gentiles, * and to be
the glory of thy people Israel. Alleluia!

The Collect
ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, we thank thee for thy servant Ansgarius,
whom thou didst call to preach The Gospel to the people of Scandinavia: Raise
up, we pray thee, in this and every land, heralds and evangelists of thy
kingdom, that thy Church may make known the unsearchable riches of Christ, and
may increase with the increase of God; through the same thy son Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen.
St.
Cornelius
(The
Centurion)

The Collect.
O GOD, who by thy Spirit didst call Cornelius the Centurion to be
the first Christian among the Gentiles: Grant to thy Church in every nation a
ready mind and will to proclaim thy love to all who turn to thee with unfeigned
hope and faith; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth
with thee and the same Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen.
The Epistle. Acts 11:1-18.
AND the apostles and brethren that were in Judea heard that the Gentiles
had also received the word of God. And when Peter was come up to Jerusalem,
they that were of the circumcision contended with him, saying, Thou wentest in
to men uncircumcised, and didst eat with them. But Peter rehearsed the matter
from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, I was in the
city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descended,
as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came
even to me: upon the which when I had fastened mine eyes, I considered, and saw
fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls
of the air. And I heard a voice saying unto me, Arise, Peter; slay and eat. But
I said, Not so, Lord: for nothing common or unclean hath at any time entered
into my mouth. But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath
cleansed, that call not thou common. And this was done three times: and all
were drawn up again into heaven. And, behold, immediately there were three men
already come unto the house where I was, sent from Caesarea unto me. And the
Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied
me, and we entered into the man's house: and he shewed us how he had seen an
angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call
for Simon, whose surname is Peter; who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and
all thy house shall be saved. And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them,
as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he
said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy
Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who
believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When
they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then
hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
The Gospel. St. John 4:4-14.
JESUS must needs go through Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of
Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave
to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied
with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. There
cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to
drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) Then saith
the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink
of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it
is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he
would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast
nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that
living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and
drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and
said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but
whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but
the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up
into everlasting life.

The Collect.
ALMIGHTY God, by whose grace and power thy holy martyrs in Japan
triumphed over suffering and despised death: Grant, we beseech thee, that
enduring hard ness, and waxing valiant in fight, we may with the noble army of
martyrs receive the crown of everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Companion of St. Paul)

The Collect.
BLESSED Lord, who didst charge Saint Titus to speak the things that
accord with sound doctrine and to offer himself a pattern of good works: Grant
to all thy people to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age,
that they may with sure confidence look for the blessed hope and glorious
appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth
with thee and the Holy Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen.
The Epistle. Titus 1:1-5.
PAUL, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according
to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after
godliness; in hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before
the world began; but hath in due times manifested his word through preaching,
which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour; To
Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the
Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. For this cause left I thee in
Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain
elders in every city, as I had appointed thee.
The Gospel. St. John 10:1-5.
VERILY, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into
the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a
robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To
him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own
sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep,
he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger
will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of
strangers. This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things
they were which he spake unto them.

The Collect.
O GOD, who dost ever hallow and protect thy Church: Raise up therein
through thy Spirit good and faithful stewards of the mysteries of Christ, as
thou didst in thy servant Thomas Bray; that by their ministry and example thy
people may abide in thy favour and walk in the way of truth; through Jesus Christ
our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the same Spirit
ever, one God, world without end. Amen.
