The Introit Psalm 148. Laudate Dominum.

O PRAISE the LORD from the heavens: * praise him in the heights.
    2 Praise him, all ye angels of his: * praise him, all his host1.
    3 Praise him, sun and moon: * praise him, all ye stars and light.
    4 Praise him, all ye heavens, * and ye waters that are above the heavens.
    5 Let them praise the Name of the L
ORD: * for he spake the word, and they were made; he commanded, and they were created.
    6 He hath made them fast for ever and ever: * he hath given them a law which shall not be broken.
    7 Praise the LORD from the earth, * ye dragons and all deeps;
    8 Fire and hail, snow and vapours, * wind and storm, fulfilling his word;
    9 Mountains and all hills; * fruitful trees and all cedars;
    10 Beasts and all cattle; * creeping things and flying fowls;
    11 Kings of the earth, and all peoples2; * princes, and all judges of the world;
    12 Young men and maidens, old men and children, praise the Name of the L
ORD: * for his Name only is excellent, and his praise above heaven and earth.
    13 He shall exalt the horn of his people: all his saints shall praise him; * even the children of Israel, even the people that serveth him.

The Collect.

GRANT, O merciful God, that, as thine holy Apostle Saint James, leaving his father and all that he had, without delay was obedient unto the calling of thy Son Jesus Christ, and followed him; so we, forsaking all worldly and carnal affections, may be evermore read to follow thy holy commandments; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Epistle. Acts xi. 27, and part of chap. xii.

IN these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch. And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Cæsar. Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judæa: which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul. Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also.

The Gradual Ps 149:1-6

    O SING unto the LORD a new song; * let the congregation of saints praise him.
    2 Let Israel rejoice in him that made him, * and let the children of Sion be joyful in their King.
    3 Let them praise his Name in the dance: * let them sing praises unto him with tabret and harp.
    4 For the L
ORD hath pleasure in his people, * and helpeth the meek-hearted.
    5 Let the saints be joyful with glory; * let them rejoice in their beds.
    6 Let the praises of God be in their mouth; * and a two-edged sword in their hands;

The Gospel. St. Matt. xx. 20.

THEN came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. And ho said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father. And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation against the two brethren. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

In the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit upon the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon the throne of his glory; * ye also shall sit, and shall judge the twelve tribes of Israel, saith the Lord.

The Parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary
July 26

The Collect.

ALMIGHTY God, heavenly Father, who settest the solitary in families: We thankfully remember before thee this day the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary; and we humbly entrust to thy never-failing care the homes in which thy people dwell; that we may be made very members of the heavenly family of thy Son Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.

The Collect.

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, the source and perfection of all virtues, who didst inspire thy servant William Reed Huntington both to do what is right and to preach what is true: Grant that all ministers and stewards of thy mysteries may afford to thy faithful people, by word and example, the instruction which is of thy grace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
